Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers to the questions readers send Ootheday most often, plus where to write if yours is not covered here.

Do the outfit ideas here assume a specific body type?

No. We describe the principle behind why a combination works, silhouette, proportion, color, so it can be adapted to different bodies rather than copied exactly from a photo of one specific person.

Is this blog only about buying new clothes?

No, a large part of what we write about is secondhand and thrifted clothing specifically, and several articles are built around getting more use out of what you already own rather than buying anything new.

How do you handle sizing advice when it varies so much by brand?

We describe fit in terms of how a garment should sit on the body rather than a specific size number, since the same labeled size varies enormously between brands and especially between new and secondhand clothing.

Do you accept payment to recommend specific brands?

Some links on this site are commercial, and that is disclosed in our editorial policy. The wording of our advice does not change because of a commercial relationship.

Because some of it does not hold up once you actually try it on a real body in a real closet. We would rather say a popular rule does not work than repeat it for the sake of agreement.

How often should I actually replace my wardrobe?

Much less often than most fashion content implies. Several articles here are specifically about making existing clothing last longer, which is usually cheaper and more sustainable than replacing it on a seasonal schedule.
